Impeach Regent Hergert!

I'm currently feeling very energetic and politically minded... I just got done sending e-mails concerning Regent Hergert to the North Platte Bulletin and North Platte Telegraph, as well as Senator Don Pederson of North Platte (Dist. 42).

I strongly urge everyone to contact their state senators and local newspapers and urge them to keep up the pressure on Hergert.
Tomorrow, I'll likely be typing and printing out letters to the members of the Board of Regents encouraging them to put pressure on Hergert. I'll also be sending letters to Senators Chris Beutler (Lincoln, Dist. 28), Ernie Chambers (Omaha, Dist. 11), and Ed Schrock (Elm Creek, Dist. 32) applauding them for their honorable efforts to remove Hergert from the Board of Regents.

Cosigners on the letters are very, very welcome!

More to follow, I'm sure...

Liberal? Conservative? It's in the genes...

Fairly old news, but interesting none the less...

University of Nebraska-Lincoln political science professor John Hibbing recently co-authored a study which was published in American Political Science Review. The article suggested one's political leanings could be affected by genetics of all things! Links to a New York Times AP article and the original research paper (it's a *.pdf) are provided below. Let me know if the links are broken.

Red Genes, Blue Genes (The Gazette of Colorado Springs)
Are Political Orientations Genetically Transmitted? (American Political Science Association)

Now for the kicker question... Fast forward several thousands of years--which trait will survive in the "battle for the fittest?" Heh, heh...

Prairie Storms

While watching a storm move in this morning, I realized that watching an approaching storm is one of the greatest experiences in life. At least at 2:30 a.m., when it's fairly quiet here in Lincoln...

The flashes of lightning in the distance, the gentle rolls of thunder, the smell of rain on the gusts of wind--it's all quite peaceful and pleasant. Even severe storms are wonderful, as long as one can forget about the damage they can cause. Mother Nature is truly awe-inspiring. More people should witness all the beauty she has to offer. Maybe that's part of the reason why I enjoy storm chasing so much...
